A Detailed 2-Day Rwenzori Trek Sine Camp
Day 1: Trek from Trekkers Hostel (1,450m) to Sine Camp (2,596m)
As we set out on our journey, the majestic trees of the Afro-Montane Forest Zone will guide us as we meander along the valley bottom. A beautiful and steady ascent awaits you in the first six kilometres. It gets more difficult to climb to Sine Camp as you cross a river. The forest is home to a diverse array of birds that make their homes in the tall trees. Some curious blue monkeys might even call the forest their home. Situated around 200 meters from Sine Hut, Enock’s Falls is a great place to take a picture that would make a beautiful screensaver.
Your cherished memories are like the verdant lichen that adorns the numerous suspended organisms, enhanced by the calming sound of the waterfall.
The Sine Camp, with its picturesque wooden cabins perched at an altitude of 2,596 meters, is surrounded by towering forests on all sides. Relax and soak in the breathtaking landscape as you look down at a lengthy stretch of rapids and a waterfall that drops over rocks. Guests often enjoy chatting with their guides while lounging outside by the campfire, sharing stories about their hometown and the surrounding mountains. You can spot a wide variety of birds just below the bamboo zone, near Sine. Enock Falls is about 150 meters away from the camp. Encircling it are luscious vegetation and lovely hanging vines. Wow, that’s breathtaking!
Day 2: Descend from Sine Camp to Base (1,450m)
Following a hearty breakfast, your day’s activities will be determined by the camp you slept in. The Rwenzori turaco, which is common amid the many enormous heathers in the area, is a guaranteed sound for campers in Kalalama. The mosses on the ground, logs, and trees can be better seen from a higher vantage point, or you can look for the turaco to get better pictures. Then, take the trail that skirts the left side of the hill back to the area right before Sine Camp. From that point, you can take a leisurely walk through the picturesque forest or descend to the stunning Enock Falls.
The forest walk, a gradual descent, takes place in a beautiful woodland teeming with birds. In some parts of the world, you may see patches of bamboo, while in others, you might see trees covered in hundreds of vines that hang between them and display bright green lichen. This forest section culminates at Sine Camp and is characterised by breathtaking waterfalls that dot the landscape. The veranda at Sine Camp overlooks the valley’s cascading rapids, which is a breathtaking sight.
Those who stayed the night at Sine Camp could either descend straight through the woods or make a pit stop at Kalalama Camp to have a better view before heading down to the park entrance and their lodgings.
