A 7-Day Weisman And Rwenzori Marathon Itinerary. The adventure of Weisman and Rwenzori marathon takes you through the beautiful Rwenzori mountains, also known as the mountains of the moon. The journey starts off with a scenic transfer from Kampala to Kasese and is followed by a 5-day guided trek through the Rwenzori mountain on Kilembe trail. Along the trek, you will pass through thick forests, bamboo zones and high alpine landscapes filled with unique plants and wildlife. The hike is challenging and requires physically fit and well-prepared climbers but it is rewarding with stunning views and peaceful mountain camps. After the trek, you will participate in the Rwenzori marathon and exciting event organised by Tusker lite and other organisers. The run walks you through local communities and finally the trek ends with a return journey to Kampala, completing a memorable adventure of nature, fitness and exploration.

A Detailed 7-Day Weisman And Rwenzori Marathon Itinerary

Day 0: Transfer from Kampala to Kasese

You will be picked up from Kampala early in the morning and begin your journey to Kasese near the Rwenzori mountain. The drive takes about 7-8hours driving through towns, farms and scenic countryside. You will stop for lunch along the way. As you approach Kasese, you will see the Rwenzori mountains from a distance. Upon arrival, you will check in at backpackers which is also base camp and prepare for the trek.

Day 1: Hike to Sine camp

You trek begins in the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains at 1450meters. You hike through the afro montane forest, surrounding by tall trees, birds, and primates like blue monkeys and black and white colobus monkeys. The trail is gradual, very steady with rich vegetation including bamboo, moss and hanging vines. You may hear chimpanzees in the distance. Near Sine camp, you will visit Enock falls, a beautiful waterfall. You will spend the night at Sine camp (2596meters), enjoying a peaceful environment, cool air and a camp fire experience in the forest.

Day 2: Hike to Mutinda camp

After breakfast, you continue through the bamboo zone, which is steep and sometimes slippery. You climb up Kalalama camp and then proceed along the ridge with views of valleys, streams and waterfalls, The landscape changes into the heather zone, filled with heather trees, covered in moss and lichen. He trail goes up and down small hills before reaching Mutinda camp(3688m). In the afternoon, you may hike Mutinda lookout(3975m) for wide views of the mountains and lowlands. This hike helps your body adjust to the altitude and prepares you for higher climbs

Day 3: Hike to Bugata camp

Todays trek takes you through a marshy valley filed with tussocks grasses and unique plants like giant lobelias and everlasting flowers. Wooden boardwalks help you cross the very wet swampy areas. You pass through the Nyamusangi valley, known for waterfalls and scenic beauty, before climbing steadily to Bugata camp (4062m) From here you will enjoy views of Bugata lake and distant peaks including Weisman peak. The area is rich in alpine vegetation and wildlife like the Rwenzori duiker. The camp is well equipped, offering basic comfort charging space and a safe place to rest before you prepare to hike to Weisman.

Day4:  Hike Weisman and descend to Kiharo camp

Early in the morning you will hike Weisman peak at 4620m . The trail passes along ridges and near Lake Kopello with very cold water and stunning views of the surrounding lakes and peaks. The final climb is steep and may required care on rocky sections. At the summit of Weisman peak enjoy breathtaking vies of major peaks like Mount Stanley, Mount Speke and mount Baker. After the summit, you descend to Kiharo camp (3460m) through a valley filled with giant plants and old glacial features. The evening is spend at the camp while enjoying the peace and sounds of nature at the camp.

Day 5: Descend to Base camp

You descend from Kiharo camp through the nyamwamba valley, a beautiful area with rivers, waterfalls, forests and gorges. The trail is mostly downhill but long and takes between 6-8hours. Along the way you may see red duikers and enjoy views of flowing waters and moss covered rocks. You stop at forest camp for lunch and proceed to the park gate and then to base camp. This final day offers a rewarding and scenic end of your trek, completing your journey through one of Africa’s most unique landscapes. Upon arrival you will transfer to Kasese for dinner and overnight ahead of the Rwenzori marathon.

Day 7: Rwenzori marathon

You will take part in the Rwenzori marathon. Early in the morning prepare yourself and head-out to meet the team of fellow participants at the starting point of the marathon. Start on the run through the demarcated areas passing through farmlands and local villages. After the trek, you will receive your medal, celebrate your achievement and return to the lodge for rest.

Transfer back to Kampala

After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Kampala, the drive takes about 6-7hours with a stop for lunch. You will arrive and be transferred to your hotel or airport marking the end of your adventure.
