Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon Routes

The Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon in Kasese, Uganda, features certified 42km, 21km, 10km, and 5km routes, held in August. The 42km “Equator Marathon” starts at the Equator and passes through Queen Elizabeth National Park. The 21km “Kilembe Half Marathon” runs into the scenic Rwenzori foothills, with all races finishing at Stanley Street in Kasese town.

  • 42 km Full Marathon (Equator Marathon): Starts at the Equator, passes through Kikorongo and Queen Elizabeth National Park, featuring views of the Rwenzori Mountains and wildlife. It is a certified tarmac route ending in Kasese town.
  • 21 km Kilembe Half Marathon: A highly scenic route from Kasese town to the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains (Kilembe) and back, with roughly 330m elevation gain.
  • 10 km & 5 km Routes: Primarily run around Kasese town for amateur runners, families, and casual participants.

1. The Equator Marathon (42 km)

The Equator Marathon (42 km)

So far as we are aware, our marathon distance is the only one that crosses the Equator, providing runners with an experience they will never forget.

Leaving from the Equator, participants will travel via the magnificent Queen Elizabeth National Park to reach Kasese town, where they will explore the foothills of the majestic Rwenzori Mountains. Uganda is a one-of-a-kind travel destination, and this route highlights its breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife.

The route was certified officially on April 2, 2024, by the World Athletics Federation.

2. The Kilembe Half Marathon (21 km)

The Kilembe Half Marathon (21 km)

After being voted one of the world’s most picturesque half-marathons by USA Today, our course has gained worldwide renown for its ascent into the foothills of the Rwenzori mountain range.

3. The 10 km run

The 10 km run

This 10-kilometer course, which will be brand new in 2024, takes runners of all abilities on a picturesque journey around Kasese town. As you make your way through the lively streets and picturesque neighbourhoods, you can feel the vivacious spirit of the town. Run enthusiasts can look forward to an epic experience along this route, which takes them through metropolitan areas and finishes with the majestic Rwenzori Mountains in the background.

4. The 5 km Vibes Run

The 5 km Vibes Run

Running 5 kilometres through the lively streets of Kasese with the breathtaking Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop is the Vibes Run. Vibes matter more than speed. Good vibes, loud music, and memorable memories await you at the end of this run, whether you jog, dance, or stride.

NB: There is no cash prize for this category either – just pure fun.
