Camps/Accommodation on Kilembe Trail or At the Base

Accommodation on the Kilembe Trail includes mountain huts such as Sine, Mutinda Camp, Bugata, and Mahoma, which are strategically located for overnight stays during the multi-day trek. At the base, you can find budget-friendly options like the Rwenzori Trekkers Hostel and Trekker’s Hostel Kilembe. Other facilities include community camps like Ruboni, offering a more rustic, nature-focused experience, and hotels in Kasese town for trekkers at the start or end of their journey.

On the Kilembe Trail (Mountain Huts)
These are the primary overnight accommodations during the trek itself. 

1. Sine Camp 2,596 Metres

Sine Camp, situated at an elevation of 2,598 meters, is positioned within the tropical rainforest zone, with the breathtaking Enock Falls lying within 200 meters before to the camp. Featuring four timber bungalows and communal washrooms equipped with a solar-powered lighting system. The prevalent trees, shrubs, and plants of the campsite include Podocarpus milanjianus, Pouteria adolfi-friedericii, Fauria saligna, Scadoxus cyrtanthiflorus, and ferns.

2. Kalalama Camp 3,134 Metres

Kalalama Camp, situated at an elevation of 3,147 meters, is positioned within the heather zone. Featuring vistas of Kilembe town, segments of Queen Elizabeth, as well as Lake Edward and Lake George. The Camp is equipped with a solar-powered lighting system. The prevalent trees, bushes, and plants at the campsite include giant heather trees. Rapanea melanophloeos, Hypericum (bequartii and revolutum), Carex, Acanthus piobacen, Alchemilla, Galium, Senecio transmarinus.

4. Mutinda Camp 3588 Metres

Mutinda Camp is situated in the Heather Zone and features an array of flora, including Heather trees, Dendrosenecios, Lobelias, Hypericum revolutum, beguettii, and numerous more plants and flowers. One can also appreciate the vistas of Mutinda Lookout situated above the camp, beside picturesque streams winding through the valley and other peaks that remain unconquered.

The camp features communal wooden cabins equipped with exterior washing facilities.

5. Bugata Camp 4100 Metres

Bugata Camp is situated in the Afro-alpine zone and features communal wooden huts with exterior washing facilities.
You will find diverse perspectives of Nyamugasani Valley featuring glacial lakes, Bugata Lake with black African swans, as well as vistas of Keki Peak and various observation peaks, in addition to views of Mt. Luigi di Savoia.

The prevalent trees, bushes, and plants at the campsite include: Hypericum revolutum, Giant heather trees, Lobelia Wollastonii, Tussock grasses, and Helichrysum (everlasting blooms).

6. Hunwicks Camp 3974 Metres

Hunwicks Camp, named after John Hunwick, the director of Rwenzori Trekking Services, is situated in the Afro-Alpine zone and offers breathtaking vistas of Butawu Valley, which links to Kitandara. It provides views of Mt. Luigi di Savoia, Mt. Baker glaciers, and, on clearer days, glimpses of Mt. Speke through Mt. Baker. A short walk of 5 to 10 minutes above the camp allows for distant views of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Common flora adjacent to the campsite includes Hypericum, Giant Heather trees, Lobelia Wollastonii, Tussock grasses, and Helichrysum (everlasting flowers).

7. Margherita Camp 4485 Metres

Margherita Camp is situated in a rocky area, featuring communal wooden huts and outdoor washing facilities. The camp enhances vistas of the Kitandara Valley, featuring the Kitandara Lakes, Weismann’s Peak, Mt. Speke, and the Elena Peaks, alongside the glaciers of Mt. Stanley.

In the immediate surroundings, one may observe Scott Elliot Pass and the Colonation Glaciers at Elena Peak. The prevalent bushes and flora surrounding the camp are Dendrosenecio and Everlasting flowers.
